ABSTRACT

The performance art collectives were part and parcel of the growing phenomenon of living in alternative communities popular during these times. Founded in 1977, Crass was a punk band/art collective residing in a rural communal setting in England called Dial House. Annie Bandez soon moved to England with Ignorant and lived with the Crass collective. She eventually worked with other British musicians of the time, including “England’s Hidden Reverse” – Coil, Nurse With Wound and Current 93 – as well as Adrian Sherwood and the reggae/dub collective On-U Sound Records. Founded in 1981 by Genesis P-Orridge and friends, Temple ov Psychick Youth existed for approximately a decade – a mix between a think tank, network, magical order, archive, experiment and performance art collective. The archival collection of contemporary talismanic art – ranging in styles from total abstraction to refined draftsmanship, including collage, mixed media, painting and sculpture – is totally unique.
