ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the fields of health communication and corpus linguistics and the intersection between these: corpus-based health communication research. From a broadly applied linguistic perspective, it addresses the main concerns of these combined fields, considering major developments, trends, and limitations. This chapter lays the theoretical groundwork for the corpus-aided approaches to health communication data that are introduced and demonstrated in the remaining chapters.
