ABSTRACT

This chapter maps out some of the forms of digital health communication that have been studied using corpus methods. We consider how digital spaces facilitate different kinds of interpersonal exchange and what effect this has on the traditional practitioner–patient relationship. Through our review of corpus studies of digital health communication, we highlight the significance of different kinds of expertise and the blending of, for example, health and marketing discourses online. We consider how corpus linguists can develop their tools and techniques in keeping with the proliferation of digital forms of health communication.
