ABSTRACT

Change initiatives often fail because there is insufficient capacity and capability to carry them out. This chapter examines ways of remedying capacity problems, explaining the concept of The Value Chain which helps in identifying processes that do not add value and can possibly be eliminated. It goes on to discuss capability and how you can create time and space to do more. There is a description of the Motivation, Opportunity and Ability framework which can be used to identify ways in which performance can be enhanced and barriers to achieving higher levels of performance removed. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the importance of flows of communication and how these can aid or hinder capability.
