ABSTRACT

It is important that any performance measurement and management system does not stand on its own. It should be firmly linked to strategy. This chapter highlights the key problems that cause strategy to fail, and the actions required to enable it to be successful. Following this introduction, there is a description of three key tools and how to use them. These are The Performance Prism, which helps in analysing the needs of stakeholders and how to accommodate them; the Success Map which is an excellent way of linking activities and outcomes and creates a “plan on a page” and, finally, The Balanced Scorecard which helps ensure there is a balance in what is measured.
