ABSTRACT

Governance provides the framework for how an organisation, or a project, is run. This chapter examines governance from two perspectives, the governance of change projects and the governance of Business as Usual. From the governance of change perspective, the chapter examines the phases of change and the types of project and presents a list of questions which should be asked to ensure everything is in order. Two case studies are presented to illustrate governance of Business as Usual. One case study is from the private sector and the other from the public sector. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the dilemma faced by many managers and leaders: how do you allow freedom to operate whilst still maintaining control.
