ABSTRACT

Good planning is an essential element of effectiveness, but planning does not mean sitting down and agreeing a course of action which is then set in stone. The same is true of planning for change. As a change initiative progresses, the plan must adapt and evolve as more information and learning is gathered. This chapter examines the nature of various types of change and their characteristics and why it is important to know what these are, before going on to explain implications for creating plans. The chapter continues by describing the role of staff at various levels in the organisation and how to handle the inevitable interference from stakeholders.
