ABSTRACT

Older adolescents are close to leaving school, moving into higher education in university or may have already moved into the wider world, either instead of higher education or afterwards. Older adolescents often struggle with the new prominence of sex in their lives. They have fully sexual bodies, the hormones of adults and minds that are usually full of sexual thoughts. Even if many Chinese families choose to have one child in the future, others will opt for two or more, so sibling issues will soon become common. While the new possibility of two child families, and the probability that there will occasionally be families of three or more children, that increase in birth rates will not be enough of a boost to the demographic problem of a shrunken workforce. It will nevertheless present another change to China’s nuclear family structure and to the overall structure of family kinships.
