ABSTRACT

In this conclusion, I document a series of closing movements in and out of the key questions of this book. What space is there within NGO programmes—themselves determined by discourses of childhood and development—for children’s lived experiences of both their life stages and familial projects of development? What does participation in NGO programmes mean, and what is the significance of “development” beyond the fleeting moment of its performance? And what does it mean to engage directly with children’s participation—whether textual, visual, or performative—as a tool for understanding children’s experiences of development?
