ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces four areas that are applicable to teaching both Costume Design and Costume Rendering classes: teaching students how to research effectively, approaching creativity and evaluation, dealing with cultural appropriation as it affects costume design, and sensitivity issues for costume designers, such as body awareness, designing for multiple shapes, and cultural sensitivities. These issues are important for costume educators to consider in their classrooms, and will help the reader to think about concepts that span both design and rendering courses.
