Teaching Costume Design for Dance

This chapter focuses on teaching costume design to dancers as well as costume design for dance to costume design students. The chapter starts with a discussion of how dance and theatrical costume design differ, moves to how costume designers work with choreographers, and then covers classes for dancers. The class schedule for the design portion of a costume class for dance students is included, as well as the class projects and alternate lectures specific to this class. For costume designers learning about dance, exercises and projects are suggested that would be incorporated into a Costume Design class.
