ABSTRACT

This chapter presents conclusions drawn from Chapters 1 through 11 of this sixth edition of Revolutions and Revolutionary Movements. The case studies of the revolutions covered are reviewed and compared for common and unique characteristics, especially in regard to the five factors critical to the development and success of revolutionary movements. Theories of revolution are also described and evaluated in terms of their potential to explain the development of each of the five crucial elements of revolutionary success. Similarities and differences among the theories are presented and strengths and weaknesses of individual theories are identified. The chapter also assesses the possibilities of future revolutionary movements.
