ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the final step in the Facilitated Wave Model of evaluation. Evaluation is the intentional act of understanding, measuring, and/or documenting the impact of our treatment interventions on clients, as well as looking critically at the process of our interventions and our own performance as a practitioner. Evaluation is not limited to the client, although engaging the client in the process is key. This chapter explores how practitioners can evaluate during the group as well as after the group in both informal and formal ways. Formal evaluations include facilitator performance evaluations, overall facilitator evaluations, as well as program evaluation which looks at the impact of the adventure therapy intervention on clients and client outcomes. Different methods used to evaluate are discussed. Staff training tips are explored as well as different experiential ways to engage clients, staff, and colleagues in thinking about and engaging in evaluation.
