ABSTRACT

Matching is a process in which a practitioner planfully and intentionally designs interventions with the assessed clinical needs and goals of clients in mind. Matching links assessment to intervention and is structured to help clients move toward their Point B/bs. Essentially, the practitioner chooses interventions that are a good fit to address the group’s needs as well as the needs of individuals within the group. Intervention in adventure therapy includes choosing activities, adapting activities, facilitating experiences in a manner that fits the specific group, and helping group members make meaning of their experience by using various ways of presenting and processing the experience. Hence, matching includes making decisions around all of these elements and is the foundation for transforming an activity into a clinical group psychotherapy intervention.
