ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses what are often the first data collection steps in all types of research: expository research designs. This chapter introduces expository research principles, focusing on examining existing and archival texts and materials, such as a wide variety of written records, and recorded official documents. For convenience, these different sources of research data are grouped into four broad categories. This chapter discuses all four types and provides instruction in designing this approach.
