ABSTRACT

Two increasingly important critical quantitative research approaches are feminist and empowerment research. Feminist research was one of the four types of action-oriented research first proposed by Kurt Lewin in the 1940s; its underlying goal is to conduct research without a gender bias. Empowerment research is concerned with helping subservient groups break the chain of exploitation by taking action to help themselves. This chapter begins with a discussion of the feminist approach and concludes with a review of the empowerment model.
