ABSTRACT

At the end of August, 1939, the publication of the Communist newspapers in France had been prohibited, by the decree of 26th September, 1939, the French Communist Party had been dissolved, and many of its leaders were subsequently arrested. The German General Staff did not favour an attack on France; they considered the Maginot Line a serious obstacle, they were convinced of the high fighting qualities of the French Army, and they could not forget their defeat in the First World War. The Communist Party proclamation of October, 1939, singles out the British bankers, who imposed the war on France and were making the French people meet the bill. In this war France is degraded to a British dominion; but the British do not share the burden with the French.
