ABSTRACT

Laurent Van der Stockt, born in Belgium, is a photojournalist based out of Paris. He has concentrated on photographing areas of conflict throughout his career, for instance, in the former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Kuwait, and Iraq. Van der Stockt helped break the news of chemical weapons use by Syria in 2013, and during his career has been awarded several prizes, among them the Paris Match Visa d’Or prize, the Bayeux Prize for war correspondents, and the Festival Prize for the Scoop d’Angers, which he won four times between 1991 and 1996. This chapter presents an interview of Van der Stockt sharing his experience as a photojournalist. In the interview, Van der Stockt describes some of the photographs taken by him covering Syrian war and Bosnian war.
