ABSTRACT

MaryAnne Golon is an Assistant Managing Editor and the Director of Photography at the Washington Post. Prior to this, she was Director of Photography for Time magazine. During her tenure at Time she oversaw the photography teams that produced Time’s special Hurricane Katrina edition as well as its unique black-bordered 9/11 edition. Both won National Magazine Awards for single topics. This chapter presents an interview of Golon in which she describes the early days of her career at Time magazine. In the interview, Golon also shares her experiences in capturing photographs of some of the incidences in New York, Iraq, and Syria.
