ABSTRACT

Many digital cameras feature a black-and-white mode enabling amateur photographer to take a black-and-white image directly on the camera. Some even allow them to tone the picture in the camera. Amateur photographer can make successful images with just an old negative and a piece of photographic printing paper. In the dark, take out one sheet from the pack and keep it in a black plastic bag. Working quickly, lay the negative on the paper with the paper’s shiny emulsion side up. Photosensitive paper, when developed, shows where light hit it as a dark tone. Where it was in shadow will show as white paper. An image created using this technique of letting objects cast their own shadows is called a photogram.
