ABSTRACT

The choice of fixed paper grades is becoming more restricted and most workers choose variable-contrast papers. One paper can give a range of contrasts when exposed to different combinations of blue and green light. The light that shines through the negative is adjusted either using dedicated contrast filters in the enlarger head, or imitating their use with the yellow and magenta filter wheels on a colour enlarger or by using dedicated coloured variable-contrast filters above or below the lens. A wide range of contrasts can be had from just one box of paper.
