ABSTRACT

Silver-gelatin prints have been with us for well over 100 years. The simple answer is that digital prints haven’t been around long enough to tell! However, a good indication is given by accelerated aging tests. This suggests we can expect a life of 75 years and over for pigment prints produced on ‘archival’ quality papers. Some dye sublimation prints may have the same life expectancy as a conventional colour print. Up until very recently many galleries and collectors have refused inkjet or giclée prints, wanting to deal only with conventional darkroom silver-gelatin prints.
