ABSTRACT

Retouching is one of the joys of digital post-production. A graphics tablet with pressure-sensitive pen is an ideal investment if the readers plan on a lot of picture retouching or bigger restoration projects on historical prints. The dyes can either be mixed from bottles or are supplied premixed in brush-tipped retouching pens. Better still are the retouching paints and dyes especially made for photo print retouching. On a fibre print, dark marks can be very carefully knifed off the surface. If the readers scan their conventionally produced black-and-white images from either negative or print they can use a computer to retouch the pictures. Some photographers use pencil to fill in the white area on the final print, with tiny dots to make up a grey equivalent to the surrounding area.
