ABSTRACT

Technical language used loosely can quickly lead to misunderstanding between clients and designers about how the finished image will look or what equipment is needed to produce a particular effect. Low-contrast images contain mostly midtones, while normal contrast images show a regular distribution of tones from highlights through mid-tones to shadows. Lenses are commonly described by their angle of view, which relates to their focal length. Prime lenses have a single fixed focal length while zoom lenses offer a variable range of focal lengths in one lens - not to be confused with telephoto lenses that make distant scenes appear closer. Shifts towards yellow/amber are described as warm because of the psychological associations; shifts towards blue are described as cool.
