ABSTRACT

A portfolio is a set of photographs that shows off the people skills to prospective clients. Building around the hits means the people start with the images that get strong feed back. Colleges and universities constantly use the phrase ‘a body of work’ and students are expected to produce sets of similarly styled, consistently produced images for tutorials. The key in choosing a hit-based portfolio is to keep the distance between differences roughly even. So many people starting out attempt to produce a portfolio that covers everything they have ever done, as if their portfolio were a retrospective. The culling method relies on starting out with a good number of images that the people then reduce by rejecting the weakest. Some student photographers offer to work for charities and produce commercial quality images that not only benefit the charity, but also can be used in a portfolio.
