ABSTRACT

There are certain features a contract must have which include an offer, an acceptance (recognising the agreement of a common purpose) and some form of reward or payment. Photographers are encouraged to get as much as possible down in writing and to have a legally binding contract for each job. Copyright can be reassigned, sold and in some instances revived by heirs or beneficiaries. As copyright holder, a photographer can sell licenses to reproduce their work in any media and territory, for anytime period. Copyright law is there to set a balance between the rights of the creator and the needs of those who want to use an image (or have access to it in the case of research).
