ABSTRACT

Model release forms set out in basic contract the agreement between model and photographer over the ways in which images will be used, and the consideration for their use. It is usual for both photographer and model to keep signed copies of the model release form, which should also be witnessed. Stock libraries recommend that the people need a model release form if they include any part of the body from which a person could recognise themselves. A property release is written permission to photograph and use images of things owned by another person. Usually applied to houses, a property release would also be needed when photographing a prize-winning pet or a classic car as both are the property of their respective owners and the people need the owner's permission. Taking photographs in a public place or even taking photographs of a private place from a public place is not against the law and requires no permission in some places.
