ABSTRACT

Subject vision statements are much more practical propositions, closely connected as they are to the day-to-day work of the classroom. They sit within the overall vision and are therefore necessarily subject to its influence. A glance at the data gives a sense of a school’s population – the proportion of pupil premium students or those with special educational needs, for example – and performance tables tell about attainment and progress. Good schools have up to date, well presented websites which are easy to navigate and used regularly by parents and visitors. Their content allows the casual reader to quickly build up a picture of the life of the school, and the best ones impart a sense of activity and vibrance. Middle leaders therefore need to be familiar with the school’s development plan and share its goals. The choices they make and the actions they undertake must fit in with the work of their colleagues and the plans of senior leaders.
