ABSTRACT

Collaboration and communication mechanisms at different levels and in different fields were established, including the China-United Kingdom (UK) High-Level People-to-People Mechanism that began in 2012. The High-Level People-to-People Mechanism constitutes the three pillars of China-UK diplomatic relations in the 21st century, together with the Strategic Dialogue since 2005 and the Economic and Financial Dialogue since 2008. Cultural exchange, including museum and exhibition exchanges, has been an important part of China-UK relations over the past two decades. It benefits from the strategic partnership between both countries, and contributes towards mutual understanding and consolidates friendship. The world-famous terracotta warriors of the Qin First Emperor of China were displayed twice in the UK over the past two decades. Several exhibitions of Chinese cultural relics have been staged in the UK over the past two decades as a result of cultural partnerships at the local level. The cultural partnership at a governmental level also provided perfect publicity and marketing opportunities for The First Emperor.
