ABSTRACT

The British Empire, as it existed in Queen Victoria’s time, was a product of naval supremacy, and was secure as long as Britannia ruled the waves. During the late war Australia was in imminent danger from Japan, but was saved, not solely by her own efforts, remarkable as these were, but also by the sea and air power of America. Australia is prosperous and nearly empty, while to the north lie the most populous countries in the world—poor, prolific, and recently awakened to dreams of world power. Russia, with an alluring gospel, with energy, numbers, a compact territory and vast resources, is engaged in organizing the politically guileless inhabitants of Asia with a view to the destruction of Western civilization and the establishment of the rule of the Kremlin over the whole earth.
