ABSTRACT

In the late 1600s, Sir Isaac Newton discovered that white light could be broken down into all of the colors of the rainbow, which make up visible spectrum that we know today. Through his experiments of passing white light though a prism, he found that light refracts and separates into red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Throughout history, color wheel has gone through many transformations. Before the wheel was created, colors had previously been arranged in a linear way, which made it more difficult to understand their relationships with each other. Today, the most common version is a diagram where the colors are arranged in a circle in order of visible spectrum. Color temperature classifications are based on physical and psychological effects and appear relative to their names. Warm colors are typically red, orange, and yellow, and are reminiscent of fire and warmth. Cool colors are typically blue, green, and purple, and are reminiscent of ice and coldness.
