ABSTRACT

As a sole practitioner or as part of the multi-disciplined sports medicine team, the sports massage therapist must have a good understanding of the biomechanics and injury profile of a wide range of sports. This chapter aims to highlight where injuries and adaptive shortening may occur from years of training and competition. Sports massage therapist work in a wide variety of sporting environments, but the sports selected in this chapter have high participation rates for both recreational and professional athletes and provide employment opportunities for practising therapists.
