ABSTRACT

Nurturing a hopeful, strengths-based ‘possibility’ mindset will help lead teachers towards a healthier wellbeing path. Educators are adaptable, creative and resilient folk. Life in Education rarely follows a linear path. Working with a diverse group of children and adults means that discomfort and struggle are a common experience. Learning how to sit with discomfort and struggle isn’t easy. People naturally have the tendency to move away from it or wish it away. One of our great assets to wellbeing, is reaching emotional freedom. Wellbeing is not static, so even with nothing notable going on, a colleague, friend or family member may be suffering their own private battle and cannot sustain their usual standards of communication and behaviour. The wellbeing aspects of forgiveness include its link to mental health outcomes such as reduced anxiety, depression and major psychiatric disorders, as well as experiencing fewer physical health symptoms and lower mortality rates.
