ABSTRACT

This chapter examines assessment and creativity from two perspectives. The first section addresses assessment for creativity. It answers the question, how can we conduct classroom assessments in ways that support students’ creative thinking? It includes consideration of varied formative and summative assessments and the importance of informational feedback, the role of choice in assessment, and assessing content in meaningful ways, including the use of performance assessments. The second section discusses strategies for assessment of creativity, including brief reviews of commonly used creativity assessments including divergent-thinking tests, biographical and activity checklists, product assessments, and a discussion of Consensual Assessment Techniques. The chapter concludes with overall recommendations regarding the use of creativity assessment in schools.
