ABSTRACT

Creativity in the Classroom is a book about creativity, written for educators. It presents research and theory regarding creativity, while always considering classroom applications. The first chapter provides an introduction to the importance, purpose, and role of creativity in classrooms. It describes the relationship between creativity and deep learning, or learning for understanding. It discusses ties between creativity and intrinsic motivation, and introduces a Creativity in the Classroom model that illustrates key relationships among creativity, learning, and motivation. The chapter further examines definitions of creativity and highlights the essential differences between creative teaching and teaching for creativity. Finally, it describes the basic functions of creativity and the challenges of teaching for creativity in a time when curriculum standards are prominent in defining curriculum.
