This chapter asks what is the implication for policy? Recognising that it is difficult for parents to learn parental practices to which they have not been exposed, it is recommended that educational programmes be made available to transmit this knowledge. Some programmes have already been introduced and their success gives reason for hope that an expanded policy could produce significant benefits. The findings also suggest that the benefits will be greatest for those most in need. This chapter then considers some other activities that could be included that are not directly related to academic socialisation but are equally important for economic success. These include self-regulation, emotional balance and skills in handling conflict.
