ABSTRACT
In a cognitive world, we are not just switching “repetition” for “cognitive rehearsal” without really knowing the why or the how. The detail is important—subtle, but critical. The idea of repetition of non-declarative knowledge will reach automaticity for skills. But for conceptual thinking, the brain requires all the lobes’ involvement. Deep understanding comes from immersive experience in learning. LTP is one of the most exciting elements of activation in the hippocampal region for memory and learning. The fact that a physical change occurs at the currency of learning. which is synapse, and that it can be sustained with intentional practice makes learning and teaching much more meaningful for online education. This chapter provides an insightful look at the impact of mental models that entertain the synaptic involvement in neurotransmitter production, postsynaptic receptors, and strengthening connections with myelin.
