ABSTRACT

Every site is unique. It can be: a remote rural location, a greenfield site, a brownfield site, a disused industrial unit, an unoccupied or occupied office building, an ancient castle or ruin, and or demolition or construction site. Site contamination can be a particular risk on brownfield, industrial and mining/mineral extraction sites prior to remediation or where slurry or slag materials may have been discarded. If the people need to inspect work at height, it is likely the people will need to make use of a scaffold, mobile tower scaffold, temporary working platform or mobile elevating work platform (MEWP). If the people are provided access via a MEWP, confirm with the person responsible for control of the site beforehand whether the ground load-bearing capacity has been assessed and that the MEWP is suitable for the terrain in the area of proposed use. Slips, trips or falls on the same level account for 30% of work-related injuries in the construction sector.
