ABSTRACT

Bedrooms unfortunately usually get the least attention when it comes to lighting. Architects or contractors typically don’t have a good game plan for lighting the bedroom, but that’s where good lighting design comes in. Here the ambient light layer makes all the difference. Use linear cove lighting, mount lights on the tops of canopy beds, armoires, and bookcases, or use floor lamps or wall sconces. Task lighting at the bedside for reading is essential. And closet lighting is often overlooked but can be greatly improved by adding a color tunable light source that allows you to pick out your outfit for the day under the appropriate color temperature. You spend half your life in the bedroom – why not feel attractive while you’re in there?
