ABSTRACT

Most of the important surfaces that reflect light in the home – furniture, fabrics, faces, and food – have complex natural colors that must be rendered … naturally. No matter how neutral a paint color or texture may appear to be under one light source, it can be greatly affected by the quality of light under different lighting conditions. The color of light can alter how rooms and the objects within them are perceived, often significantly. Daylight renders colors “truly,” but at night we are used to, and tend to prefer, seeing things under light with warmer color temperatures. Design teams that include interior designers, architects, landscape designers, lighting designers, or others should work closely together with light and materials early on in the design process.
