ABSTRACT

This chapter depicts the multilayered conceptualization of AI and its various technological methods. Due to the increasing AI-driven applications in the military sphere, one may mention notable uses of AI for national security purposes, which highlight its varied operational functionalities. The literature suggests a notable AI distinction to its three granular and consecutive evolutionary steps: narrow artificial intelligence, general artificial intelligence, and superior artificial Intelligence. An additional essential AI taxonomy relates to super intelligence and to AI’s alleged ability to outweigh human intelligence. Within the AI characteristics, it is important to mention the prevalent term of ‘Algorithmic Bias’, in which algorithms exhibit existing human biases in the programming and training process. Therefore, biased sampling or any other algorithmic limitation may produce imperfect data, and AI-driven decisions may exacerbate human biases, and pose significant threats to equality and liberal values.
