ABSTRACT

The practice of making photos deliberately and intentionally can be broken down into two parts. First, turn on your brain before you turn on your camera. When you’re out taking photos, follow your immediate impulse to get that shot. After that, pause for a moment. Deliberately observe by focusing your attention on the subject matter. Ansel Adams said,

In my mind's eye, I visualize how a particular … sight and feeling will appear on a print. If it excites me, there is a good chance it will make a good photograph. It is an intuitive sense, an ability that comes from a lot of practice.88
