ABSTRACT

Photographs communicate mostly about the story in the composition. That meaningful interaction takes place with a visual language that can only tell part of readers story. Artist promoter Jacqueline Lara reminds authors that viewers want to know more information than a photo can offer. It’s important to make a connection with viewers by telling them about their inspiration, interests, and artistic choices. They want to know their story. Viewers want to connect with the person that makes the photographs they love. A successful artist statement will facilitate a connection between interested viewers and the photographs, inspiring them to take the time to participate in a perceptual experience. The artist statement offers an opportunity to grow that connection by inviting observers to be part of their inner circle. There are also practical incentives for composing an artist statement.
