ABSTRACT

Technical photographersare the go-to people when readers want advice on buying equipment and dealing with computer hardware or software problems. They are logical, analytical, realistic, and practical thinkers. They believe in order, pay attention to details, and like having control over all aspects of their work. Ansel Adams was certainly one of the most famous technical photographers. He even invented a technical process called the Zone System, so he could create images that more perfectly represented the way he pre-visualized his natural subjects. Fine artists warn that aiming for technical perfection can put the readers in danger of making beautiful, but boring images. Sometimes imperfections can be important characteristics in a photo. Early in the history of photography, ideas around truth versus fiction arose as one of image-making’s major topics.
