ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 presents a further mapping of a field for a discussion about morality in management and organization studies. Moving from the discussion of the individual behaviour perspective of moral management, it looks at the organizational context and shows how moral management tends to be seen as a contract related to the transactional aspect of moral behaviour. It follows with the presentation of views on the role of organization in setting the moral environment for individuals, both in the context of a workplace environment and in the context of social leadership. Specifically, it discusses how corporations can be seen as moral vehicles and the consequences of such a view for assessing moral conduct. This discussion is based on a literature review, in a similar manner as Chapter 2, and synthetizes major building blocks of theories covering moral management and moral organization.
