ABSTRACT
In this chapter we explore how generative mechanisms detected at the level of the Real give shape to latent meaning structures. Our main goal is to turn attention to the necessity of re-construing the ground upon which biographical research has been established, namely “lived experience”, in order to grasp the temporal dimension of the forming of relational mechanisms. We put forward the arguments of proponents of reconstructive biographical research (RBR) who underscore the biographical grounding of decision-making processes, involving both habitus and reflective deliberation in relation to the various social relations people live. Finally, we provide answers to radical constructivists’ objections regarding the claims of RBR to explain causally social phenomena.
