ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the critical attention to executive function gaps. A hallmark of many disabilities is a deficit in access or executive function skills. These vital skills cut across all content disciplines and grade levels, having an enormous impact on school success. Many students will have IEP goals that directly address access or executive function skills. In these cases, specially designed instruction will be necessary. At other times, a variety of accommodations will be helpful to students with deficits. There is an abundance of peer-reviewed research on interventions that special educators can use during this step of the planning process.
