ABSTRACT
On the question of predestination, for instance, people find a great number of passages in the Qur’an which leave not the least doubt that man’s course of life is mapped out beforehand. That in itself would be acceptable as long as it would refer to circumstances connected with man’s outer life. But the moment it is linked with the complete arbitrariness of God’s dealing with man on a spiritual level, it becomes highly objectionable from the Christian point of view. Naturally, as there is no deep conviction of sin in Islam, no feeling of an estrangement between God and man, there is no need for reconciliation, no need for redemption, nor for a Saviour from sin, no need for a complete turn in life, nor for being born again in the likeness of the Spirit. And there lies the deepest gulf which separates Christianity from Islam.
