ABSTRACT

This chapter is centered around a very unique case that dramatically depicts the living connection between the alchemical process and sandplay. The unfolding sandplay process of a six-year-old boy displayed many similarities to the ancient, archetypical alchemical process. In retrospect, his journey was a necessary one. Only through an alchemical process was he able to access the deepest layers of the unconscious and thus transform the negative emotions buried there. Points about alchemy from Jung and Kalff are discussed. The comparison of the sandplay process of this boy to the alchemical process uses Edinger’s (1985) seven operations in alchemy.
