ABSTRACT
This chapter presents and discusses sandplay creations of females and males at various ages organized to help identify which features in trays are related to age, which to gender, and which to the uniqueness of the individual psyche – as well as to determine what is age appropriate, and what is not and may indicate a problem. The age discussion is organized around the five sandplay categories used in the research by Ruth Bowyer Pickford (1956). The gender effects are based on a classic study by Erickson (1951) and a study by Jones (1986). Sand trays from many different clients illustrate these concepts.
